Post #6 Academic Software for Students/Twitter

  • Two software tools that I would like to implement in my future classroom are Prezi and Quizlet! One of my science teachers in middle school introduced my class to Prezi to help us create more organized and interactive presentations than PowerPoint. As a student in middle school, I found it a lot easier and more fun to use. While PowerPoint does allow for more creative freedom, Prezi instantly offers interactive templates. I want my future students to know that there is other software that can be used for digital presentations. Quizlet is a resource that I wish more of my teachers advocated for because it helps to promote healthy learning interaction with other students and good study habits. I want my students to use all of the resources they can online to help them study in order to save time and fully comprehend all of the content they were taught in class.
  • I have absolutely loved the time I've spent on Twitter so far! I've been using the #fsu2040 to connect with other students in the course and follow them. This has been beneficial because it makes it so much easier to communicate and talk about the course with other students more directly. Seeing other students discuss the course on Twitter motivates and reminds me to complete my assignments for the week. Funnily enough, I've been connecting with my mom, who is a media specialist, via Twitter! Her retweets have shown me more about current events that are happening in Florida's education system and beyond. This week I retweeted one of her retweets about the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Program, or the Florida SSYRA. The Florida SSYRA Twitter account helped me to discover more Florida educators online. Twitter might be helpful in my future career because it is a wonderful way to learn about news and connect with other people instantly.

  1. Hi Minnie,
Prezi is one of my favorite softwares for creating presentations! I also love how interactive it is and also like that it is not a typical slide show presentation. It is really cool that your mom is a media specialist, and she probably knows a lot of useful information that could help you out in this class! Can't wait to check out all your retweets and tweets made on our #fsu2040 page!

  2. Hey Minnie! I wanted to stop by and gush about Quizlet as well; I'm really glad you mentioned it as a useful software tool. I used to just download different study guides and flashcards, but last month I got in the habit of making Quizlets to study Spanish vocabulary. It was super helpful! I found that writing it on my own helped me remember the terms. And I followed you on Twitter a little while ago. I like how personalized you make your account and bio, because you seem accessible and easy to interact with. Also, I love classics too. :P

"The Flipped Classroom" is a class that incorporates instruction outside of the classroom in addition to instruction in the classroom. This is usually done through providing assignments and instruction online to enhance learning. "The Flipped Classroom" is a nontraditional form of learning and instruction. It's beneficial to students because it keeps the learning process going no matter where they are located as long as they have access to a computer. I wish I had been given more online instructional tools when I was in grade school, I believe that "The Flipped Classroom" is every classroom's future! The digital divide is a fancy way of saying that some students have easier access to technology, such as computers/tablets, than others. The causes of digital divide vary, but it's primarily because of financial or geographical reasons. This is because some students may not be able to afford to access the technology or they may live in a rural ...

Hello! My name is Minnie. I am currently a student studying Creative Writing and Criminology at Florida State University. My dream job after college is to either become a high school English teacher or go to graduate school to be a licensed clinical social worker. I absolutely adore spending time with my cat, reading, and traveling abroad. Some of the current books on my summer reading list are The Handmade's Tale, Normal People, and Becoming Michelle Obama. I have traveled to: England, Scotland, France, The Netherlands, Canada, the Bahamas, Canada, Tanzania, and Kenya. My prior experiences using technology in a classroom setting included using the classroom's smart-board when I was in elementary school. For those of you who don't know what a smart board is, it's an interactive, touch screen board that replaces traditional white boards in classrooms. Through using my laptop and smartphone in my everyday life, I have had primarily positive experiences with modern...
