  • Open education helps provide a free, high quality education to anyone online. Open content sets out the rules for what can and cannot be done with content. Open content typically includes information, images, or videos. The first part of the Open Source Initiative requires that all open content can be freely freely distributed. According to this article on WhatIs.com, Wikipedia is one of the largest online resources that contains open content. Open sources are software that are available to anyone online. Open sources such as Moodle take pride in being readily available for educators to download and use.
  •  Open education is beneficial because it gives students who might not have the access to a high quality education in a physical setting to learn whatever they want online. Most open educational resources are available for free online. Examples of OER include: online videos, podcasts, online courses, etc. According to an article published by Education Week, OER are materials that anyone can use for either instructional or learning purposes. Federal law such as the Every Student Succeeds Act encourages OER as a way to help students learn even more.

  1. I love Moodle! It is definitely going to be my go-to in my classroom. I also think open education is beneficial, and super helpful especially when you take online classes and may not have as much face-to-face classroom time.

I wish I had been given more online instructional tools when I was in grade school, I believe that "The Flipped Classroom" is every classroom's future! The digital divide is a fancy way of saying that some students have easier access to technology, such as computers/tablets, than others. The causes of digital divide vary, but it's primarily because of financial or geographical reasons. This is because some students may not be able to afford to access the technology or they may live in a rural ...

Hello! My name is Minnie. I am currently a student studying Creative Writing and Criminology at Florida State University. My dream job after college is to either become a high school English teacher or go to graduate school to be a licensed clinical social worker. I absolutely adore spending time with my cat, reading, and traveling abroad. Some of the current books on my summer reading list are The Handmade's Tale, Normal People, and Becoming Michelle Obama. I have traveled to: England, Scotland, France, The Netherlands, Canada, the Bahamas, Canada, Tanzania, and Kenya. My prior experiences using technology in a classroom setting included using the classroom's smart-board when I was in elementary school. For those of you who don't know what a smart board is, it's an interactive, touch screen board that replaces traditional white boards in classrooms. Through using my laptop and smartphone in my everyday life, I have had primarily positive experiences with modern...
