  • Open education helps provide a free, high quality education to anyone online. Open content sets out the rules for what can and cannot be done with content. Open content typically includes information, images, or videos. The first part of the Open Source Initiative requires that all open content can be freely freely distributed. According to this article on WhatIs.com, Wikipedia is one of the largest online resources that contains open content. Open sources are software that are available to anyone online. Open sources such as Moodle take pride in being readily available for educators to download and use.
  •  Open education is beneficial because it gives students who might not have the access to a high quality education in a physical setting to learn whatever they want online. Most open educational resources are available for free online. Examples of OER include: online videos, podcasts, online courses, etc. According to an article published by Education Week, OER are materials that anyone can use for either instructional or learning purposes. Federal law such as the Every Student Succeeds Act encourages OER as a way to help students learn even more.

  1. I love Moodle! It is definitely going to be my go-to in my classroom. I also think open education is beneficial, and super helpful especially when you take online classes and may not have as much face-to-face classroom time.

"The Flipped Classroom" is a class that incorporates instruction outside of the classroom in addition to instruction in the classroom. This is usually done through providing assignments and instruction online to enhance learning. "The Flipped Classroom" is a nontraditional form of learning and instruction. It's beneficial to students because it keeps the learning process going no matter where they are located as long as they have access to a computer. I wish I had been given more online instructional tools when I was in grade school, I believe that "The Flipped Classroom" is every classroom's future! The digital divide is a fancy way of saying that some students have easier access to technology, such as computers/tablets, than others. The causes of digital divide vary, but it's primarily because of financial or geographical reasons. This is because some students may not be able to afford to access the technology or they may live in a rural ...

Post #6 Academic Software for Students/Twitter

Two software tools that I would like to implement in my future classroom are Prezi and Quizlet! One of my science teachers in middle school introduced my class to Prezi to help us create more organized and interactive presentations than PowerPoint. As a student in middle school, I found it a lot easier and more fun to use. While PowerPoint does allow for more creative freedom, Prezi instantly offers interactive templates. I want my future students to know that there is other software that can be used for digital presentations. Quizlet is a resource that I wish more of my teachers advocated for because it helps to promote healthy learning interaction with other students and good study habits. I want my students to use all of the resources they can online to help them study in order to save time and fully comprehend all of the content they were taught in class.  I have absolutely loved the time I've spent on Twitter so far! I've been using the #fsu2040 to connect with othe...

Post #2: Influences, STE Standards, and Digital Natives.

Personal learning networks such as online resources and their coworkers influence teachers influence teachers to use technology in the classroom. The more teachers learn themselves, the more they are able to adjust their instruction techniques to teach their students in the most effective way possible. Students may feel influenced by their phones to use technology in the classroom. For example, when I was in high school we would use our phones for Kahoot! quizzes to help us review for tests in class. It was an excellent way to use technology that I used outside of class for educational purposes in the classroom.  One ISTE standard that is meaningful to me is the "Creative Communicator" standard for students. I consider myself to be a creative person and I've always enjoyed using my creative skills for projects in the classroom. For example, in middle school I collaborated with a classmate to create a three-dimensional poster explaining the anatomy of a flower f...
